About This Special Issue
Multiagent systems (MAS) are intelligent, autonomous, social, interactive and pro-active systems. A MAS is simply a group of co-operative agents. MAS is a model that is built on the BDI (belief, desire and intention) architecture. Thus, a MAS can be designed to solve problem in different paradigms, either as a software or hardware system. Unlike monolithic systems, a group of autonomous agents, very much like humans, can function to solve a complex problem through their individually assigned roles yet co-operative in nature. Agents can sense percepts in their environment and take actions. That is, they have the ability to function in both physical and cyber systems. These environments can be in trade & commerce, engineering, education, social life & leisure, healthcare, transportation, smart cities, and (internet) security. Other areas that relates to data are, namely, big data, subject-predicate-object triples of the semantic web, and knowledge representation & reasoning. This special issue proposes to spark discussions in these and other related areas such that agents can be integrated into IoT (internet of things), machine learning techniques; and like humans, agents should to be able to formalize semantic rules (from problem) which are in turn used as specifications for software development.
