Counterfactuals play a profound role in many philosophical discourses. However, although much research over the last 50 years has focused on counterfactuals, many questions remain unanswered. Today, the most promising account of counterfactuals is the so-called ordering semantics due (mainly) to the works of Lewis, Stalnaker and Pollock. Despite its success, ordering semantics is, though, still haunted by serious challenges from counterfactual scepticism, counterfactuals with disjunctive antecedent, underdetermined closeness measures, commitment to conjunction conditionalization and a number of related puzzles. This issue invites prominent philosophers engaged in the contemporary debate to address these challenges and thus to improve the foundation for our most prominent theory of counterfactuals.

Aims and Scope:
