About This Special Issue
For providing a sustainable energy supply, renewable energy sources appear to be one of the most efficient and effective solutions. Taking into account the directions of the world, concerning the increasing role of natural resources in general and renewable power sources in particular for supply of loads and reduction of carbon and other pollutant emissions, this work presents techno economic features of the main types of renewable power sources. A hybrid power generation system suitable for serving an off grid micro power system consisting of diesel generation, biogas, solar PV, wind turbine, micro hydro plants and dc generator of fuel cell type has been proposed.

Aims and Scope:

1. The concept of hybridizing renewable energy sources is to augment the diesel generator in providing power to the base load.
2. The work is carried out based on modeling, simulation, optimization and sensitivity analysis of the penetrations of the various renewable energy sources in terms of net present cost, levelized cost of electricity, operating cost and performance of the system.
3. The hybrid optimization model for electric renewable (HOMER) software was used in the course of the study to design and optimize the proposed hybrid system.
4. Furthermore, a solar PV-hydrogen system in which an electrolyzer converts excess PV power is proposed.
5. Based on the simulated results, it has been found that the renewable sources will replace the conventional energy sources and would be a feasible solution for distribution of electric power for standalone applications in an off grid micro power system
