About This Special Issue
In recent years, big data and cloud computing have become popular in the IT world. The term big data is derived from the fact that the datasets are so large that typical database systems are not able to store and analyze the datasets. The datasets are large because the data is no longer traditional structured data, but data from many new sources, including e-mail, social media, and Internet-accessible sensors. Cloud computing is a model for enabling ubiquitous, convenient, on‐demand network access to a shared pool of configurable computing resources (e.g., networks, servers, storage, applications, and services) that can be rapidly provisioned and released with minimal management effort or service provider interaction. Cloud computing offers the promise of big data implementation to small and medium sized businesses. However, as the big data is getting bigger and bigger in every second, big data and cloud computing is facing more and more challenges. This issue is to bring together more professional opinions on big data and cloud computing and also to invite more discussion about the future of big data and cloud computing.
