About This Special Issue
Crop production is severely affected by biotic and abiotic stresses that reduce yield. Insects are the most destructive pests that cause economic loss to the agricultural crop through directly sucking phloem sap or chewing plant parts. Use of pesticides is the main approach adopted by many farmers to manage agricultural insect pests which not only reduced infestation level of these insect pests, but also responsible for the resistance and resurgence development, causes mortality of beneficial arthropods, and environmental and health hazards. Many researchers are busy to find out alternatives to pesticides due to adverse influences. Therefore, in recent years, the focus has been shifted towards bio-control of insect pests, bio-pesticides (fungus, bacteria, nematodes and viruses), natural product insecticides (plant extracts and essential oils), proper management of nutrient requirements and modification with mineral nutrients, behavioral control, insect pest resistant crops, cultural control, physical and mechanical control and genetic control. These tactics are valued tools for non-chemical pest management strategies which ultimately helpful in the reduction of abovementioned threats due to pesticides usage.
The special issue aims to publish internationally peer-reviewed, high-quality research articles in the field of biological and integrated pest control (non-chemical control) of both pre- and post-harvest insect pests. The special issue includes review articles, original papers, conference reports, book reviews, editorials, laboratory reports, technical notes and short communications.
