The Shaping and Price Change of Shared Employee Model: New Insights from China

Abstract: The past outbreak of the COVID-19 global epidemic has spawned an emerging model of "shared employees" in the Chinese labor market, and this paper conceptualizes this new model, demonstrating that shared employees have produced unique changes in China. This paper presents a descriptive analysis of 604 research samples that conducted employee sharing to examine labor relations formation and price changes in shared employee model during the COVID-19 pandemic. As a unique human resource management in China under the changes of the pandemic, the results show that the group of shared employees has not emerged for a long time, the average age of the group is younger, and the labor risks and social security problems are not yet acute. Thus, this paper believe it is necessary to expand the coverage of social insurance as soon as possible and safeguard the social insurance rights and interests of the employees in the new business. Based on these findings, this paper takes a Marxian labor price theory approach to analysis the positive changes of labor price during the pandemic, the results show that shared employee model can effectively restore and promote the value of labor, and successfully restrain the distortion of labor price. In view of the unique circumstances investigated, this paper includes our conclusions, a discussion of the study's limitations and management implications, and recommendations for future research.

Abstract: Artificial Intelligence (AI) has increasingly become integral to various sectors, notably within human resource management (HRM). Its applications span from aiding new employees with onboarding queries to assisting customer service representatives in mood recognition and self-correction. This Study explores the implementation and perception of AI within the HRM sectors of UAE's public and private entities. The research uses data from two surveys targeting HR professionals in Abu Dhabi, grounded in a thorough literature review centred on the six fundamental dimensions of HRM theory and supplemented by empirical analysis. Primary survey findings are detailed in the main text, while supplementary results are presented in the Appendix. Key insights illuminate employees' attitudes towards AI integration and underscore their concerns about its implications in HR. Artificial Intelligence (AI) has significantly impacted various sectors, including HR departments. It has improved HR processes like job recruitment and salary transfers. AI can reduce nepotism and bias in HRM functions, enhancing efficiency and effectiveness. However, fear of job loss and AI replacing human resources persists. To fully understand AI's potential, further analysis with industry segmentation and a combined approach should be undertaken, ensuring equal representation from various age and gender groups. AI implementation should focus on diverse sectors, ensuring a holistic view of results across different industries.

Abstract: Employees are the most important, valuable and productive asset of an organization and needed to be retained for the betterment of the organization. Employee retention is the systematic effort by the employers to generate and promote an environment that encourages existing employees to stay. This study is to assess perception of employee on organizational work force retention strategies at Bule Hora University, Ethiopia. The study adopts qualitative research with interpretative phenomenology approach. Bule Hora University staffs are population of study and purposive sampling techniques has been adopted to select sample from study population. The data for study was collected through semi-structured interview questions and focus group discussions. The data has been collected, grouped, coded, analyzed and interpreted through narrative study. Findings of the study reveal that mutual expectation of employer and employee is binding contract between employees and organization. Further, understanding employee expectation before developing retention strategy is helpful to develop acceptable strategies. Although Bule Hora University has good employee retention strategies, there is still employee dissatisfaction because of inclusiveness problem of major strategies and unfairness in employee handling system. The study contributes to the management of the University in redefining the staff retention strategy in the light of the findings. The findings for this research was from primary data. Therefore, the research is new in the case organization and area.

Abstract: In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the retail industry has rapidly shifted towards flexible work arrangements (FWAs) due to increased online shopping and changing consumer behavior. This paper provides a detailed analysis of the impact of FWAs on hourly retail employees, with a focus on integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) for schedule optimization and the associated challenges. The global rise in online shopping, which saw a 43% increase in 2020, has highlighted the limitations of traditional fixed schedules in meeting the fluctuating demand for retail staff. To address this issue, the paper proposes a three-module implementation strategy that includes labor focusing, automated schedule publication with shift-swapping capabilities, and a service to ensure compliance with flexible schedules. Labor forecasting is a crucial aspect of this strategy and faces complexities due to the unpredictable nature of the pandemic. Our approach utilizes a truncated dataset and AI/ML algorithms to recalibrate models in real-time, ensuring staffing levels are responsive to immediate market conditions rather than relying solely on historical patterns. Additionally, the paper discusses the development of an auto-population service for advance shift assignments, taking into account statutory notifications such as Oregon's 14-day rule. The inclusion of a 'shift swap' feature empowers employees to proactively manage their schedules, fostering a collaborative workplace culture. To minimize schedule disruptions, we propose a points-based system that penalizes postponements and non-compliance with schedule commitments. This system strikes a balance between operational requirements and employee flexibility, with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in place to guide managerial responses to infractions. In conclusion, embracing FWAs, supported by innovative technologies and fair policies, positions retail businesses advantageously in the current market. This paper also calls for further research into the long-term effects of FWAs on mental health, productivity, and legislative frameworks, offering a comprehensive blueprint for the sector's evolution in the post-pandemic era.
