About This Special Issue
Maternity continuum of care is the continuity of maternity health care services that a woman uses antenatal care (ANC), skill birth attendant (SBA), and postnatal care (PNC). This Continuum of care in maternal health has become one of the government concern and program for planning and evaluating strategies within currently existing maternal health system of Ethiopia. It is an important intervention in reducing maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality. However, there is no clear information on the proportion of dropout from maternity continuum of care in Ethiopia.
Improve maternal, newborn and child health is one of the government concerns in Ethiopia, which is the third component of sustainable development goal (SDG). Since improving maternal health care service utilization in a continuum manner had a key role in achieving the third SDG. On the other hand, Good maternal health is a human right, as well as a pre-condition and a determinant of newborn, child, and adolescent health. Knowing the magnitude and factors of drop out from maternity continuum of care will help to suggest interventions to be designed in order to reduce the problem.
Thus, this study is intended to assess the proportion and associated factors of dropout from maternity continuum of care among mothers who gave birth in the last 12 months, North West Ethiopia.
This study will be helpful for the local program managers to evaluate their contribution and proper implementation of their program towards the problem. The result of this study will also provide greater input and opportunity for researchers to conduct further study on dropout from maternity continuum of care.
