Abstract: Despite the contribution that the Small and Medium Tourism enterprises have in the development of tourism Industry and in the country’s Gross Domestic product (GDP), the performance of these enterprises is still poor and questionable. The study focused on determining the relationship between psychological pricing in terms of odd even pricing and prestige pricing and the performance of Small and Medium Tourism Enterprises located in Arusha city. Purposive sampling was employed to select key respondents who were participants in ensuring data collection activity is successful. The study also used self-administered questionnaires to collect relevant data to answer the research objectives. Linear regression analysis was used to find out the existing relationship between psychological pricing (Odd even pricing and prestige pricing) and the performances of Small and Medium Tourism Enterprises in terms of sales growth. The results revealed that prestige pricing and odd even pricing are significantly related to sales growth of Small and Medium Tourism Enterprises with p value (p=0.000). Therefore, prestige pricing and odd even pricing are the key determinants of performances of Small and Medium Tourism Enterprises in terms of sales growth. The study finally recommended that the management of Small and Medium Tourism Enterprises should see the possibility of using psychological pricing as a strategy to price their tourism products to improve the performance in terms of sales in Tanzania.

Among these, 8 and 12 SDGs contain several indicators to analyze the level of sustainability implementation in tourism sector. Particularly, this industry has experienced a steady growth in demand, yet causing environmental and social impacts. For this reason, this study aims to assess at country level three standard frameworks (Tourism Satellite Accounts – TSA, System of Environmental-Economic Accounting – SEEA and Tourism Gross Domestic Product – TGDP) involved in 8 and 12 SDGs. Particularly, the methodology, based on Goal Question Metric (GQM) approach, consisted into a general goal, four research questions and six metrics for evaluating the sustainability implementation at country level and the investigation period was 2016-2019 and it referred to 156 world countries. Moreover, through TGDP per country, according to 8.9.1 indicator, and TSA and SEEA, according to 12.b.1 indicator, the authors analyze the level of sustainability achieved at country level. The results showed that tourism industry was receiving particular attention from countries, but there is a need for greater awareness at the country level to disclose the instruments implemented and the levels of sustainability achieved.

Abstract: Community based tourism (CBT) is relatively a new concept in Bangladesh and has started to gain momentum recently. It is popular with travellers who are looking for an experience to live closely with a particular community and learn about their way of life. The purpose of this paper is to look into how the community based tourism can be fostered to lead towards socio-economic development within a community. The paper follows an exploratory research that employs qualitative research methods by combining literature review and case study. The research addressed two projects as case studies, one from the public sector (Chor Kukri Mukri) and the other from the private sector (Avijatrik). In-depth interviews were conducted with the project co-ordinator for Chor Kukri Mukri and with the COO for Avijatrik. The interviews revealed how the novel concept of community based tourism was gradually introduced in different communities within a limited scope, and yet managed to make a remarkable impact on the livelihood and lifestyle of the local residents. The findings also highlight how the value chain has been established by both government authorities and private entrepreneurs leading towards socio-economic development of those rural communities. This paper contributes towards the existing pool of research in community based tourism. It would also help potential private entrepreneurs and aid strategic planning for government funded projects in future.

Abstract: The growth of tourism has increased the demand for qualified human resources across sectors of the industry. Tour and travel firms are among the beneficiaries of qualified human resources, based on their ability to demonstrate task competencies in their areas of specialization. However, the extent to which educational qualification levels are making an impact on task performance behavior in the tourism labor market has not been given much attention. This study, therefore, aimed to establish the extent to which tourism educational qualification levels (TEQLs) influence task performance behavior (TPB) among tourism-qualified employees in tour firms in Nairobi, Kenya. Nairobi is the business hub for both local and international tour and travel firms. Data was collected from one hundred and thirty-one (131) supervisors of tour firms, who rated three (3) randomly selected employees from each of the following levels of qualification: one holder of a bachelor’s degree; one diploma; and one certificate. Both descriptive and inferential data analysis was conducted to assess the extent to which TEQLs influence TJPB. The research findings show that TEQL explained 74.9% of the total variations in the TJPB (R2= 74.9%). The regression coefficient output showed that TEQLs positively and scientifically influenced TJPB at (β=0.786, p=0.001). The implication of these findings validates the fact that transitioning from a lower level of tourism educational qualification to a higher level improves task job performance behavior of an employee by 0.786 units. Even though the magnitude seems small, it is evidently worth investing in developing tourism professionals, for this has benefits to employers, employees, and the economy at large. This study recommends that governments keep investing more in developing tourism personnel as this boosts the competitiveness of the industry.
