Abstract: Some facts from different reliable scientific sources show that learning a new language can lead to some health benefits which can fight off aging of the brain and keep our brain young for a longer time, as well as delay the onset of dementia or ward off Alzheimer’s disease that may occur in future.
Abstract: There is no question that education plays a great role for all aspects of development. When we see the developed nations in the world; they have been developed not only they have excess natural resources and minerals, but also they have learnt how to use it and how to properly manage it. In other words, they have a great advancement in education. Numerous studies have been conducted on engaging students in classroom discussions. Here, previous research is pulled together to gain a comprehensive overview of the benefits of participation, logistical issues in participation, student confidence and personality traits in participation, the instructor’s influence on and suggestions for increasing participation. In case of our country, the government takes different measures to enhance the development; one is by education. But our education system faces different challenges. Among them is our students are not taking learning as their own responsibility rather they consider it as a fulfillment of having some kind of certificate. In short, they are not actively participating in the classroom. To conduct the study both interview and observation are used as a data gathering tools to collect information about the student’s participation in the classroom. Different action strategies were taken like, advice; changing the seating arrangement, reinforcement, etc…from this interventions used by observations there around on average 14 students participated per day which is seen to be a great change in participation that existed before. Abstract: The main purpose of this study was assessing the implementation of continuous assessment and its effectiveness in Adwa College of Teachers Education. The study explored the effective implementation of continuous assessment based on the format of college and implementation difference among departments. Moreover, the mark score difference among subjects and mean score among group work, individual work, short test, mid exam and final exam were explored. The study employed census method to achieve the purpose of the study because the population was manageable. Questionnaire and document analysis were employed as an instrument. Data from questionnaire were collected from 52 instructors. Mark lists from all sections or subjects were collected and analyzed it through t-test in order to analyze the mean difference of marks among subjects and among techniques of continuous assessment. Almost all teachers gave individual and group assignment to their students but students did not reflect their individual assignment because of time shortage. Even though students reflect their group assignments, teachers are less satisfied with the answers provided by the group members. The main factors that impeded teachers to implement continuous assessment effectively are large class size, shortage of time and low readiness of students. Based on the paired sample t-test result, the significant value of individual work and all exams (short test, mid exam and final exam) is 0.000. Moreover, the significant value of group work and all exams (short test, mid exam and final exam) is 0.000. This indicated that there is significant difference between the mean gained from individual work and exam or group work and exam. However, the significant value of short test with mid exam and mid exam with final exam is 0.249 and 0.723 respectively. This indicated that there is no significant difference between the mean of short test and mid exam, and mid exam and final exam. The significant value of practicum and other subjects is 0.000. Therefore, there is significant difference between practicum and other subjects. The average grade of practicum based on this study is “A-” while other subjects are “B+”. Abstract: Quite a few language teachers and educators have supported the literature-based approach in teaching both a second and foreign language. In many cases the use of stories including folktales has been observed to be most common of all types of literature in language classrooms. This article highlights the multifaceted rationale for using folktales to teach foreign languages, especially to young learners. It presents features of folktales which have the potentials to facilitate child foreign language acquisition.
