Abstract: In this research copper oxide (CuO) nanoparticles were prepared by sol gel method. In this method CuCl2.2H2O was used as precursor, the obtained CuO nanoparticles were further supported by alumina to produce copper oxide support on alumina catalyst, the copper oxide nanoparticle and the catalyst were characterized using different analytical techniques such as titrimetric method, x-ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and the catalyst was applied in the synthesis of tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS). The obtained results indicated the formation of copper oxide nanoparticles and copper oxide supported in alumina catalyst in high quality, also the catalyst increased the rate of formation of tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS).

Abstract: This work presented a facile, green and effective method to prepare the ultra-hydrophobic melamine-formaldehyde (MF) sponge loaded with reduced graphene oxide (rGO) by a conventional heating method using the various contents of graphene oxide, GO (1, 3, 5, 10 and 15 mg) precursor, and vitamin C as a reducing agent. These GO precursors were used to increase the roughness of the MF/rGO sponge surfaces. Then GO precursor, rGO, pristine MF sponge and as-prepared MF/rGO sponge samples were confirmed and characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Raman spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and water contact angle techniques. Moreover, the adsorption capacity, oils removal performance and recyclability of MF/rGO sponges were also investigated. The results showed that the water contact angle values were increased from 131 to 144.1 upon the increasing of GO precursor loading. The highest water contact angle (144.1) exhibited the ultra-hydrophobic property by the sponge prepared using GO loading as 10 mg (MF/rGO-10 mg). The adsorption capacity (Qe) of the MF/rGO-10 mg sponge was higher than 102 g.g-1 for all the oils removal tested (palm oil, gasoline, diesel and lubricant oil), and had the highest value was about 112 g.g-1 for lubricant oil. Besides, MF/rGO sponge can be well-recycled use up to 10 times for all oils removal. Therefore, this study provides a new alternative method to prepare the MF sponge loaded with rGO (MF/rGO), which can be used and reused for the cleanup of oil spillages from water.

Abstract: Silk fibroin hydrogels are promising materials for controlled drug delivery device due to their aqueous process ability, biocompatibility, and biodegradability. The research work is aimed to prepare silk fibroin (SF) hydrogels loaded with Ag nanoparticles and to evaluate its antifungal activities. The Silk fibroin hydrogels were formulated at 37°C using 2% (w/v) silk fibroin aqueous solution either by treating 50% (v/v) of ethanol, or 50% (v/v) of propanol, or 50% (v/v) of glycerol, respectively. Above these, the rate of gelation was sufficiently accelerated by addition of glycerol. The silk fibroin hydrogels and prepared silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were characterized by using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Thermo Gravimetrical Analysis (TGA). The encapsulation efficiency and release profile of AgNPs were studied by UV-vis spectrometry. The particle size of AgNPs was measured by Malvern Zetasizer Nano and found 93±5 nm. The encapsulation efficiency and morphology of the hydrogels was affected by the formulation conditions. The in vitro release profile showed an initial burst release of AgNPs followed by controlled release for next 20 hours. The antifungal activity of AgNPs loaded SF hydrogels showed a positive response to Aspergillus Niger pathogen. Therefore, silk fibroin hydrogels might be an effective biopolymeric matrix for antifungal applications.
