Abstract: The qualities of glass as transparency, translucence, brightness and versatility for the various applications, practical and aesthetics make this material indispensable for the artistic creation with a close connection with architecture. In an historical approach this paper will succinctly study the tradition and charisma of this light material, giving special credit to the stained glass, demonstrate the emerge of this Art in the relation with architecture, concerning the Portuguese contemporary panorama. Portugal has a history regarding contemporary stained glass that is unknown. In the 20th century we assist to an interest and development in this art, as many recognized Portuguese artist, painters and sculptures contribute to this mural art, conceiving cartoons and maquettes that would be produce in glass studios, some of them in Portugal, in a close relationship between artists and craftsmen. Born in association with architecture, stained glass is much more than a simple decoration of space, it is an integral part of the architectural building. This paper will focus on the production of stained glass in Portugal, showing some significant examples of works produced by Portuguese renowned artists. Colorful windows with grisailles paintings in an association between color and light will be presented, and also the changes that happen during the 20th and 21st centuries, clarifying the state of Portuguese stained glass.

Regeneration Strategy on Historic Urban Landscape (HUL) Based on Case Study

Abstract: The background of this thesis is that Italy’s large cultural heritage overlaps extensively with urban constructions. Research and practice on this issue have achieved successful results and examples worth learning from. This study contains a systematic review of the development process of Italian urban cultural heritage conservation, and a brief description of the historical urban landscape (HUL) concept and method, and the notion of “regeneration” under the premise of inserting “dynamic”, “activation” and “sustainability” in heritage conservation. The research method of this paper is to analyze several successful cases of Italian cultural heritage regeneration, three strategies of Italian landscape heritage regeneration under the HUL theory were summarized: “landscape” layering of urban and historic elements under the strategy of connecting sections; “activating” the historical landscapes using heritage as the catalyst; driving the sustainable use of historic urban landscapes with the power of community. In addition, Facing many problems of Chinese cultural heritage，three important points are provided for the development of HUL regeneration strategies dealing with urban sprawl in China including focusing on the historical and cultural “layering”, establishing a multi-criteria assessment system about heritage and promoting public participation as a long term driving force of urban renovation.

Abstract: Bosnia and Herzegovina has a wide range of architectural programs of traditional architecture which, according to its concept, design and materialization has the characteristics of bioclimatic architecture: houses (main and auxiliary-seasonal), barns, utilitarian architecture (mills, handicrafts), sacral (mosques), turbe, church). The Bosnian House-chardaklija is one of the most authentic achievements of traditional architecture in Bosnia and Herzegovina. As a residential building, it most fully reflects the housing culture of the Bosnian-Herzegovinian man, and his overall view of the world. The Bosnian House-chardaklia reached its classical stage of development in the 18th century, and the solutions reached will be maintained during the 19th and 20th centuries, in some places until today. Unlike the City House (which in Bosnia and Herzegovina, similarly elsewhere in the world, was generated with more or less pronounced influences of other cultures), the Bosnian House-chardaklia directly reflects the natural environment of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the social environment, socio-economic relations, philosophy, religion, morals...). Bosnia and Herzegovina is rich in forests and building stone of various performances, from stone suitable for masonry, stone suitable for floor coverings to stone slabs suitable for roofing. This fact is directly reflected in the generation of the spatial concept of the house, its construction and materialization. The presented examples of the Bosnian House-chardaklia in Cuhovici near Konjic keep the basic concept of the developed type of this house, but in their architectural-spatial concept it is more modest (rooms are smaller, there is no sofa), which is a direct consequence of colder climate and domination of stone over wood material.
