Abstract: Office buildings are where individuals spend 7.7 hour to 9hr of their time daily, and it should be comfortable under all circumstances. This place could be comfortable for the occupants in every in every condition. Comfort ability or uncomfortable work behavior of workplace have significant influence on the productivity of worker and health of employee. Most government sector offices in Ethiopia built with similar prototype and standard in different site and orientation. This duplicating the similar office building affects the thermal and visual comfort as well as productivity of occupants. This study assesses the thermal comfort level of selected Addis Ababa government standard and prototype buildings. The study sample sampled three site similar buildings and two from each site which found in different orientations and has different characteristics. The study based on field survey measurement of five sequent days in the warmest month of January 2021. Also it includes the literature review and use of secondary data. The occupants asked about the thermal level, their preference through the primary data collection. The major indoor thermal comfort variables air temperature and relative humidity in each case offices measured in these five days to compare and analyze with the standard office operational temperature. The data obtained and analyzed by the supporting software like SPSS, ArchiCAD, Revit and excel. The result from data analysis indicated that almost half of the people asked are not comfortable with the thermal environment. The temperature of some selected case buildings are at the expected and standard level while others are exceeding the level due to characteristics in each office. These factors include the green infrastructure integration, orientation, number of occupants, the thermal regulation measures in each office. In this study the buildings those with original design, similar with original design orientation and engaged in maintenance have good thermal comfort when compared to others.

Abstract: In today’s ‘Hypermodern’ world, where space-time compression and digital technological innovations are the dominant modes of existence, Nietzsche’s ideas can still offer alternative perspectives and ways of life. One of the main issues that spatial design disciplines have to face within hypermodernity is the growing deterritorialization of events and human inter-actions, the insurmountable distancing between bodies in space. Digital technology creates ‘spaces of flows’ that transcend communities, regions, places, localities and persons, inaugurating an exponential dematerialization of social and human relations. Although there are strong indications that Nietzsche’s nomadic way of life and thinking would perhaps endorse the digital turn, I would like to argue in the present paper that if we read his textual corpus closely, attentively and slowly, a new possibility emerges: the great value of embodied thinking. My basic working hypothesis is that thinking through the body needs proximity: real Places of the Outside, whether natural or urban, in order to unfold itself. Nietzsche can be used against digitalization and hypermodern ‘non-places’. More specifically, it seems that an important topic has been relatively neglected so far within the vast secondary literature of Nietzsche Studies: his concept, idea or notion of place. This paper aims to offer an introductory analysis of Nietzsche’s conception of place, as elaborated mainly in Ecce Homo. I will try to show the close relationship between place and inspiration, Stimmung and the body, arguing in favor of a new philosophy of locality. I will then suggest that this new idea of place has potentially very interesting consequences, and could open up new, radical questions for contemporary and future architectural theory and practice.

Abstract: Hexi seal painting is a form of color painting of ancient Chinese architecture and a symbol of the supreme status and power of the royal family. Hexi seal paintings are mainly painted in the main buildings and temples by court painters in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. They are gorgeous in color and rigorous in structure. This paper makes a visual analysis of the related articles of Hexi seal painting, analyzes the knowledge map of Hexi seal painting in CNKI database from 1979 to 2021, and roughly outlines the development context and frontier of Hexi seal painting research from 1979 to 2021; and based on the cluster analysis of the key words, it is concluded that the study of Chinese Hexi seal painting can be divided into five directions: the Study of Cultural Relic Protection, the study of patterns, the Study of Color, the study of techniques, and the modern application, it is concluded that the Dragon Grass Color Painting is the Research Frontier in Hexi seal painting. There are three main fields in the study of Hexi seal painting in China, they are archaeology, architecture and art. The best way to study Hexi seal painting is inter-discipline and joint research, which promote the protection and development of Hexi seal painting art.

Abstract: Sustainable urban form is an important prerequisite to stimulating urban vitality. Under the current urban regeneration movement in China, the transformation and upgrading of old communities mostly focus on renewing facilities and living and building qualities. Coordinating urban regeneration strategies and the changing urban development model to promote high-quality urban development is an important challenge. This paper believes that using the theory of sustainable urban form could help stimulate the proposal of creative urban design intervention comprehensively and systematically, and promote the refinement and humanism of urban regeneration. Taking the urban micro regeneration planning and design competition of Jing'anli community in Tianjin Binhai New Area as an example, this paper discusses applying sustainable urban form theory to transform old communities. In response to building a "complete community" and "15 mins-community life circle" by the central government, this paper explores the possibility of regeneration design strategies with mixed land use, sustainable transportation organization, high-density regeneration, diversity and passive energetic technologies and green design. This research is willing to guide the contemporary old community regeneration design for achieving sustainable high-quality urbanization in China.

Abstract: Vernacular dwellings are an extremely important building type worldwide, and as an important carrier of the daily life of the vast rural population, they concentrate the local traditional building craftsmanship and the appearance of rural life. By tracing the construction and use of vernacular dwellings, it can provide useful clues for reconstructing the weak community relations in modern society. In the studies on residential houses, researchers often select official-style buildings located in the city and residential houses in the core of the region as the objects of study, and less research has been conducted on ordinary vernacular residential houses. Therefore, this paper selects a common village settlement located in the Lingnan sub-region, China as the research object, records the original information of the settlement, and restores the appearance of the dwelling with computer technology, and further analyzes the vernacular settlement in terms of planning and design, construction technology, and ecological characteristics, in order to comprehensively interpret its structural technology characteristics and cultural connotations, and provide useful assistance to policy makers and planning and design practitioners in the preservation and cultural transmission of historical buildings. Vernacular architecture has gradually disappeared in the context of modernization, and the study in this paper is also a blueprint to keep the backup of vernacular houses in Lingnan sub-region.

Abstract: The study addressed housing typologies as a result of urbanization of Ado-Ekiti, Nigeria. Ado-Ekiti is growing with an influx of people and its attendance housing infrastructure. Urbanization has given rise to different types of buildings, and changes in status, however these housing typologies are not yet researched, recorded and captured. Structured questionnaires of 1,500 were administered to the respondents who are the landlords or oldest tenants and 1311 responded. The town was structured into three zones: Urban core, Transitional and Periphery. Statistical tables were generated for the variables. Two hypotheses were formulated: there is no significant variation in the housing typologies in the study area and there is no significant difference in the status of housing units in the study area. Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and Pearson Product Moment Correlation statistics at 0.05 level of significance were used to test the two hypotheses. It was found out that one single family bungalow and face-me-face-you typologies were more significant at the urban core area with 48.1% and 34.2% respectively while semi-detached and storey typologies were more significant at transitional and periphery with 14.6% and 1.7% at Transitional 11.4% and 11.1% respectively. The study revealed that there is a significant difference between housing typologies and significant difference in status in the three zones. The study recommended that there should be an urban renewal programme at the urban core and owners of dilapidated buildings should be encouraged to reconstruct.
