Abstract: This study provides a comprehensive analysis of the challenges in Zaha Hadid Architects' parametrical projects, focusing on recent digital technologies in the realms of "Architecture" and "Urban planning." Recently, Zaha Hadid Architects “urban-scale" project has awarded the title of "Parametric-urbanism" introduced a new urban design term to the world. This research delves into the design and implementation issues encountered in the Istanbul Kartal-Pendik Master Plan, parametric design which planned non-realistic, and fluiding plots and parcels not dependent on the city maps. 20th century early urban planning doctrines of C. Sitte and some French urbanists known as pragmatists, and realistic. The study expected to contribute design discourse with new approach parametric projects via French pragmatists problem solving methods. A comparative method is used to analyze the late 20th century parametric theories, and urbanism ideologies of 20th century; CIAM, Le Corbusier and French urbanists’ “realistic” and “problem-solving” methods. Zaha Hadid Architects’ “urban-scale” projects created via abstractions of parametric repetitive forms considered problematic. Some inconsistencies are observed in design and implementation process secondary parametric urban elements; road, axis, plot, parcel, block design and dimensions. Also, the urban scale parametric projects can be problematic in complicated, old, historical cities like Rome, Paris, Istanbul.

The Concept of Difference in Architecture: Transpositions Between Insides and Outsides

Abstract: Postmodernity unhorsed the subject as powerful creator of life, showing not only that it is not in direct correspondence with the world, but furthermore that it is not even in control of itself. In this context, philosophy introduced an understanding of the world based on the concept of difference. Specifically, structuralism acknowledged difference as a poetics of ambiguity in the service of communication, while poststructulalism proclaimed difference as the impossibility of meaning. In this paper, we critically interpret these approaches in reference to the criterion of interiority/exteriority. Difference under structuralism introduces meaning as totally inside constructed, although towards outside operating. The figurative internalization of the postmodern architecture presents exactly the disconnection of meaning-making processes from the social context and their orientation towards consumption’s external experience. In addition, under the poststructuralist conception of difference the meaning lies exclusively outside and the corresponding trends of architectural creation, while in a way approximating freedom, seem also to contribute to a cultural disempowerment of critical ways of life and thinking. In distance both from the subject’s restriction inside and its abandonment in the tragedy of the outside, we suggest a Bakhtinian conception of difference which allows a creative continuous motion between interiority and exteriority, by both decomposing and producing meaning, always within the conflictual reality. In this direction, architecture may call for a spatial ethos of justice, a carnival polyphonic space of open boundaries between insides and outsides, which, although retaining their identities, they do not construct impenetrable territories as, in a sense, they are always at the critical limit.

Abstract: Millennials and post-millennials demand alternative educational models, leading educators to adopt Experiential Learning (ExL) theory, which acknowledges ludicity in learning spaces. ExL is the subject of a growing body of research to date. Gamification is recognized to enhance student engagement and academic success. This research aims to investigate gamified activities tailored to Interior Architecture and Design (IAD) education. An exploratory approach is used to review the potential of gamification as a tool to achieve ExL contributing to students’ learning experience. A literature review lays a foundation for ExL theory and gamification. Pilot ExL-based gamified activities conducted on year 1 IAD students at Coventry University - Egypt, are documented using thick description based on participant observations, which inform the potential and drawbacks of each gamified activity. Thematic analysis is conducted to attain the research findings. The findings are reviewed by two methods, superimposing the pilot gamified activities collectively on the ExL cycle to confirm students interacted with the four modes of the cycle. Second is by assessing the activities according to their design considerations including educational, time-related, collaboration-setting, and operational considerations. Findings subsequently yield guidelines for educators supporting the design of gamified activities. This is to aid IAD educators in establishing ExL by infusing their curricula with gamified activities matching the educational expectations and needs of today’s students, without diverting from desired content. Results reveal that there is a direct correlation between the effective planning of a gamified activity following the derived design considerations and the completion of the ExL cycle.

Abstract: Sustainable art in landscape architecture encompasses activities like installing works of art that are durable, functional, decorative, iconographic, interpretative, integrated, ephemeral, or temporary. Projects of sustainable installation in landscape architecture have highlighted the contributions of public arts in social, cultural, and economic aspects. Studying the environmental impacts of public art in cities is still lacking. The purpose of this article is to highlight the contribution of eco-art in urban space to the development of sustainable cities, through the exam of a selection of sustainable installation from the word. Therefore, peer-reviewed articles and online resources were used to analyze sustainability, awareness, and environmental values associated with eco-public art and sustainable installations in order to inspire other directions, such as a dialogue between art and the public, landscape architecture, and environmental sustainability through public art. Despite landscape architecture studies are often focused on sustainability; however, there is little research on how to create durable installations through the synergy between art, design, and architecture. Based on the analysis of selected projects using a combination between art, design, and architecture concepts, to create an eco-installation in the urban space, it was highlighted that, during the early phases of promoting the green city concept, Eco-Public Art promotes visual support, tools, and the form of knowledge. All the analyzed sustainable projects were developed to demonstrate the best approach to public art because of their attitude and behavior toward the major issues.
