Abstract: This paper investigates the role of personal network resources in promoting innovation in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Innovation is a key driver of economic growth and competitiveness, and SMEs are widely recognized as important sources of innovation. However, SMEs often face resource constraints that limit their ability to innovate. Personal networks are one potential source of accessible and cost-effective resources that entrepreneurs can use to overcome these constraints. Using a sample of 94 Tunisian entrepreneurs, we estimated a structural equation model (SEM) to test the relationship between personal network resources, creativity, and innovation. Our study aimed to provide insights into the complex interplay between personal networks, creativity, and innovation in the context of SMEs. Contrary to expectations, our study did not find a significant effect of personal network resources on innovation. Additionally, creativity did not mediate the relationship between resources and innovation. These findings suggest that personal network resources may not be as important for promoting innovation in SMEs as previously thought. Despite the lack of significant results, our study makes important contributions to the literature on innovation in SMEs. In the full paper, we will discuss the implications of our findings in more detail and provide recommendations for future research.

Abstract: Amidst the expansion of the global economy and Vietnam's growing integration into the international arena, the country has formed substantial trade relations with a diverse range of nations across the globe. As a result, it is crucial to comprehend and study the dynamics of exchange rates, relying on the well-established theoretical frameworks of the Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) theory and the International Fisher Effect (IFE). Given the longstanding nature of these theories, the main purpose of this study is to assess the validity and applicability of the PPP theory and IFE in explaining the changes in exchange rates between Vietnam and its various trading partners. Employing a multiple linear regression approach, we investigated quarterly historical data comprising interest rates, inflation rates, and exchange rates of 12 trading partners, including the ASEAN-5, China, the U.S., Japan, South Korea, France, Canada, and Germany from Q1 2002 to Q4 2022. The results unequivocally show that neither the PPP theory nor the IFE can adequately explain the variations in the Vietnam Dong's exchange rate with respect to those of its trade partners, underlining the existence of significant theoretical deviations. Given these observations, policymakers and investors are strongly encouraged to adopt a holistic viewpoint, including a variety of indicators, and conducting additional research to make informed decisions that support long-term economic stability and growth.

Abstract: Contract farming (CF) has been one of the strategies employed to improve the commercialization of malt barley and substitute imported malt barley in Ethiopia, in addition to addressing production and marketing challenges. Additionally, the anticipated results include meeting domestic malt barley demand, enhancing the welfare of smallholder farmers, and conserving the nation's foreign exchange. However, there is a relatively low rate of participation in CF, that has yet to be thoroughly studied. Accordingly, the purpose of this study was to identify the variables influencing the level of participation in CF among malt barley farmers in Northwestern Ethiopia. A semi-structured interview schedule was used to collect data from 398 (189 CF participants and 209 non-participants) malt barley farmers randomly selected from 9 kebeles in 2 districts selected by multistage sampling procedures. The inferential statistics highlighted marked differences and associations between malt barley CF participants and non-participants. According to the results of a probit model, CF participation of malt barley farmers was positively correlated with the frequency of extension contact, field day and training participation, cooperative membership, access to credit, and household size. To strengthen and enhance the CF participation of malt barley farmers, the government and non-governmental organizations, and other concerned bodies should improve cooperative and financial performance and the agricultural extension system.

Abstract: The study investigated the link between current account deficit and budget deficit as the primary objective, and the impact of other control variables on current account deficit was also examined. In order to achieve the object, the time series data running from 1987 to 2021, collected from various sources, is employed by using the autoregressive distributive lag (ARDL) model. Accordingly, both long run and short-run estimations are undertaken to find out the possible link between the current account deficit and the budget deficit. The empirical finding of this paper supports the existence of a positive relationship between the current account deficit and the budget deficit in the long run, whereas the paper rejects the Keynesian proposition and fails to find a significant positive relationship between the two variables in the short run. In order to grant statistical trustworthiness to the findings of the research, all diagnostic tests are conducted with appropriate testing mechanisms, and the model is found to be statistically healthy. As the fiscal deficit is found to be a significant factor in the current account, the study recommends a reduction of non-development expenditure and enhancement of domestic revenue collection. Besides, economic growth is found to have a negative and significant impact on the current account deficit in the long run; hence, the government should adopt an appropriate macroeconomic policy to enhance economic growth. The policy measure may target improving infrastructure, the quality of human capital, and the efficiency of the factors of production. Finally, money supply and the real effective exchange rate are also found to be a significant determinant of the current account deficit, in the long run, suggesting the requirement of appropriate monetary policy by the central bank to have an optimum money supply and a stable exchange rate.
