Abstract: Women are important segment of the human population and appropriate investment in their welfare would be of great benefit at individual, household, and community levels. There has been an increasing incidence of welfare deprivation among women in rural Nigeria. Thus this study examined the welfare deprivation of women in rural North-West (NW) Nigeria. Secondary data from Nigeria Demographic Health Survey (NDHS, 2013) was used for this study and 6798 rural women were sampled in the survey. Data analysis was done using descriptive statistics, fuzzy analysis and logit regression. The mean age of women in NW is 30 years and a standard deviation of 9. Majority of the women in NW had no formal education (85.80%) and this is a major contributor to women’s welfare. Women in this region have a mean household size of 7 and this had an effect on their deprivation status. The Deprivation Index for rural women ranges from 0.01 to 0.82 with a mean value of 0.30. Educational attainment, employment type, household size, marital status, age of the woman, state of residence determines a woman’s deprivation status in rural NW. The study concluded that women are deprived in rural NW. Government and non-Governmental Organisations should put in place measures to augment human capacity development of the women in NW through increased school funding in order to overcome the financial constraints of parents involvement in educating up-coming generations.

Abstract: Despite the evidence of the existence of strategic plans in nongovernmental organizations in Kenya, the greatest impediment to successful use of these strategies in development has been failure by organizations to implement them. Indeed, previous studies have shown that crafting strategic plans is a lot easier than to make them happen. The objective of the study was to find out the influence of leadership styles on the implementation of the strategic plans. The sample size of this descriptive survey design study was 10 Human Resource Managers and 70 financial officers giving a total of 80 respondents which has been selected through saturated sampling techniques. The study used questionnaires and interview schedules to collect data. The validity of the research instrument was ensured by conducting a pre-test study in three NGOs from the neighboring county. Data collected was analyzed using measures of central tendency, mean and median. The quantitative data was analyzed through descriptive statistics while qualitative findings were thematically analyzed. Results indicated that majority of the leaders (90.48%) in NGOs in Kisumu County do not have skills and abilities required to ensure effectiveness in the implementation of the strategic plans. There was high positive correlation (r =.854) between leadership styles and the implementation of the strategic plans. The study recommended that Non-Governmental Coordination Board (NGCB) should advice NGOs on a leadership style that will provide direction, implementing plans and motivating NGOs in Kisumu County towards implementing strategic plans.

Abstract: New consumption patterns based on quality and sustainability have encouraged the coffee production chain to innovate and adapt to the new competitive scenario. While Brazil is the world’s largest coffee producer, it is known mainly as a producer of commodity coffee. To overcome these weaknesses, the Brazilian government has implemented policies designed to align the coffee sector with the new global consumption patterns. The centerpiece of those policies is the creation and institutionalization of the “Cafés do Brasil” program with the purpose of promoting the brand “Cafés do Brasil” in the international market as a symbol of quality, flavor, diversity of origins and sustainability. This paper deals with how the institutional framework that guides the agents was designed, how the structure and mechanisms for coordinating and adapting the agents involved in the Cafés do Brasil program were established and to what extent the program has achieved its goals. The research findings reveal that elements linked directly to the institutional framework have compromised the program’s effectiveness. By decentralizing the coordination and control activities to regional agents, the Federal Government is failing to coordinate the program. The lack of alignment between the different organizational levels has led to the proliferation of regional brands aimed at the domestic market indicating a shift away from the original objective of the program to establish the brand “Cafés do Brasil” as a symbol of fine Brazilian coffees on the international market.

Statistical analysis software SPSS-20 version has been used for quantitative analysis.
