Abstract: Transformative learning theory concerns itself with the organic integrity of learners, and holds that man is a complete unity of biological, social and spiritual attributes. Man’s rationality, his sensibility and his spiritual perceptions underlie each other and interact with each other, so for a man’s overall sound development, not only the development of his rationality but also the development of his sensibility and spiritual perceptions should be highlighted. At present, the professional training of pre-service teachers is restricted by instrumental rationality, ignoring the development of mans’ sensibility and spiritual perceptions, which leads to the cultivating of rational instrumental people who lack professional emotions. Positive and stable professional emotions are the lasting motivation for teachers’ professional development. To break from the shackles of teacher education dominated by instrumental rationality, the paper studies to develop re-service teachers’ reasons, sensibility and spiritual perceptions, to build their stable professional emotions based on Transformative learning theory. By literature review and reflections based on supervisions of students’ field practice, this study finds that developing pre-service teachers’ rationality will promote their primary professional emotion from superficial to deep; developing pre-service teachers’ sensibility will promote it from volatile to stable; developing pre-service teachers’ spiritual perceptions will promote it from external to internal.

Abstract: The history of the University of Zaragoza during the last decade of Franco’s dictatorship is not far from the reality experienced in other campuses such as Madrid’s, Barcelona’s, Valencia’s or Seville’s. Since 1965 the actions in the campus will evolve progressively, reaching days of real struggle that will lead to the direct confrontation with the academic authorities, and the resulting academic sanctions, detentions and identifications, the entry of law enforcement into the campus and even the closure of the university. Throughout the last ten years of the dictatorship, the anti-Franco student mobilisation will open up to the monopoly and personalism of the PCE to give rise to a considerable and constant increasing number of students who will not hesitate to get involved in the creation of new associations and upcoming forms of struggle. During the 1960s a new type of university protest began in which the protagonists, the objectives and the confrontational actions constituted an innovation that the regime failed to recognise and whose solution was physical and judicial repression. The University of Zaragoza became a continuous focus of challenge to the regime. The legal tools used were the Jurisdiction of Public Order and the Public Order Court. The analysis of their judgements constitutes a primary source of extraordinary importance that reveals that students in Zaragoza were an active and crucial element in the anti-Franco fight in the city. The campus led concentrations, assemblies and other dissatisfaction displays, highlighting the Communist Party of Spain and its pursuit to lead and promote student mobilisation.

Abstract: The current study is mainly aimed at investigating the role of teaching approaches in mastering Biology subjects in ordinary secondary education settings in Morogoro Municipality. The study guided by two objectives, to assess the common approaches applied in teaching and learning Biology subject, and to examine whether teachers are competent and possess the skills of using more than three methods in teaching Biology. The study employed mixed methods and a case-study research design. The schools and students were selected through simple random sampling. Twenty ordinary secondary students were selected per each school, three Biology teachers per each school and one head of academic department or head of school per each school as well as one quality assurer responsible for Biology subject. The collected data were classified, analyzed through the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) Computer Programme version 25 then interpreted using descriptive statistical techniques, and qualitative data were subjected to content analysis. The findings showed that most Biology teachers preferred to use lecture and chalk talk methods, through which these approaches lead students to fail to master well the subject. Furthermore, the findings indicated that most Biology teachers are competent and possess skills of using different teaching approaches, though in apply them become a problem due to overcrowded class and lack of enough time, teachers found themselves using lecturing or question and answers rather than other approaches recommended for the competence-based curriculum. The researcher recommended that; Biology teachers should employ hands-on and mind-on approaches and strategies such as field trips, project works, experimentation, simple research and demonstration when teaching to enable students to be creatives, hence competent and to master the subject.

Abstract: The study investigates influence of parents’ physical abuse on emotional and academic adjustment of secondary school students in Ijumu LGA of Kogi State, Nigeria. Correlational designed was used for the study. A sample of fifty one (51) abused students was drawn from two public schools. Two research questions and two hypotheses were formulated. Statistical means was used to answer the research questions and inferential statistics of Pearson Product-Moment Correlation (PPMC) was used in determining if or not a significant influence existed. Results showed that all the hypotheses 1 and 2 were rejected. Significant negative influence existed between parents physical abuse and emotional adjustment of students with (r= -0.567, p= 0.000), parents’ physical abuse and academic adjustment of students with (r= -0.769, p= 0.030). The results of the study indicated that parents’ physical abuse has negative influence on emotional and academic adjustment of students’ in Secondary Schools. It was therefore recommended that through Parent Teachers Association (PTA), school counselors should continuously sensitize parents on the need to desist from physical abuse because of the negative influence it has on the emotional well being of students. Non-Governmental Organizations should invigorate their efforts on massive campaign against physical abuse. This will make parents to understand the implication of physical assault on their children such as kicking, pushing and torturing, as this produces fearfulness, anxiety, low self-esteem and academic adjustment difficulties. The National and all states’ Houses of Assembly should deem it fit to pass the Child Rights Act. Hence, this will give protection to young secondary school students against physical abuse by parents and improved their emotional and academic adjustment.

Abstract: The liberalization of telecommunication sector in Nigeria led to serious competition among the cellular mobile network service providers. In spite of the big financial commitment by these companies into their particular communication technologies, users ultimately make purchasing decisions based on their identified quality of service (QoS). To meet the expectation of subscribers on quality service delivery and gain a sustainable competitive edge in the market, network providers have to understand and characterize customer’s view of the quality of service provided by their given technologies. In this study, the factors that influence the quality of service of mobile network operators in Nigeria were assessed through a cross-sectional survey design. A total of 100 experts from telecommunication industry and 300 subscribers of the four major network operators (MTN, Glo, Airtel, 9 Mobile) aged between 18 and 65 years living in the South East (Imo State, Ebonyi State, Anambra State, Abia State and Enugu State) of Nigeria were enrolled into the study using a random sampling technique. The quantitative approach used was regression analysis. In order to manage the large volume of data gathered, statistical package for social sciences [SPSS] software window version 18.0 was employed. It was observed that the factors that influence the quality of service of mobile cellular network providers in Nigeria are: Customer care (L2), Network coverage/ Availability of service (L5), Price of service (L4), Call quality (L3), Diversity of bundle option of service (L1) and Promotion/Offering of Incentive (L6). When considered together, all the factors significantly affect the quality of services of the mobile network service provider with 0.000 significant level of confidence. A model of the relationship between the Quality of service (dependent variable) and the Quality of service factors (independent variables) was derived as: Y=3.731 + 0.565L5 + 0.440L3 + 0.221L2 + 0.189L4 + 0.165L1 + 0.097L6. It is suggested that telecommunication industries invest more on radio infrastructural development to guarantee a very wide coverage area and boost Call quality.

Abstract: This paper explores the diffusion and spread of the fourth industrial revolution (4IR) otherwise known as industry 4.0 in relations to Nigeria. Technology that was once science fiction is now a reality. The real world and the virtual world are merging to create a new reality-actual reality. The core feature of the 4IR is the marriage of physical and digital technologies such as analytics, artificial intelligence, cognitive technologies and the internet of things (IoT). While the 4IR connects the world together, this connectivity is however, hierarchical and asymmetric. The 4IR still follows the social, economic and political patterns of previous industrialization, where countries and individuals at the centre of its invention and application maintain the market leader status. If the threats and opportunities of the 4IR are to be taken adequately into account in industrial policies in Africa, then a thorough understanding of the implications of the 4IR for the continent is required. This paper explores the social impact of 4IR and its implications to Nigeria and in deed Africa, the strategy going forward, the implications on talents, workforce and skills as well as the technological implications of 4IR for Nigeria. This paper concludes that digital and advanced technologies in the 4IR have become essential tools for social and economic development as well as the material well-being of individuals in the emerging digital economy. The benefit of adopting industry 4.0 technologies will be evident in its continuous diffusion and spread, leading to enhanced productivity in the economy. However, the indifference of government has both immediate and long-term negative impacts and accounts for the widening technological gap. The policy recommendation for this study is that Government should as a matter of national security, should focus on research and development and identify key areas of focus in research for product development.

Abstract: The purpose of the study was to assess the challenges single parented students face on education attainment specifically Alfagems secondary school, the case study in Morogoro Municipality. The study employed case study research design based on mixed research approach i.e., both quantitative and qualitative research approach. Both purposive and random sampling techniques were used. Primary data were collected from 50 respondents who were randomly selected through interview and questionnaires. Qualitative data were analyzed using content analysis and thematic analysis. During the analysis of qualitative data, the first step involved taking notes during interview, arranging them in a sequence and then, the data were coded finally presented in text form. Moreover, quantitative data were descriptively analyzed to generate frequencies and percentages. The study result revealed that economic hardship, lack of parental care, lack of socialization, lack of guidance and counseling and lack of emotional support were found to be the major challenges single parented students face in education attainment hence led to poor performance and drop out of school. Basing on the study findings, the researchers recommend that single parent students should try their best to love and concentrate on their studies regardless of the challenges encountered in their upbringing as result of the change in their family structure.

Abstract: Education has been used by Ghana's successive governments to accelerate national development policies and programs. However, it has been recognized that the type and quality of the educational system inherited from the colonial era does not meet the country's needs. This led the study examine the relationship between students’ perception of deficit needs and academic performance of senior high school students. Correlational design was employed in the study. Stratified and simple random sampling techniques were employed to sample 290 second year students. Pearson Product Moment Correlation was used to analyze the data. The study revealed that physiological needs have a statistically significant positive but low relationship with academic performance (r=0.132, p=0.025). The results revealed that, there is no statistically significant correlation between safety needs and academic performance of the students (r=0.054, p=0.361). There was a low but significant relationship between love/belonging needs and academic performance (r=0.177, p=0.003). The study again showed that esteem needs predicted academic performance of students more than any other deficit need (β=.173, t=2.309, sig. 0.022). The study recommended that that school authorities should place much emphasis on the physiological needs like food, water, rest, ventilated classroom etc. of students to help improve their academic performance. The study again recommended that more room be created to foster student-teacher relationship and student-student relationship for students to have a sense of belongingness. In order to do this, teachers can adopt group work and other teaching strategies that encourage students to work together.

Abstract: The advance of COVID-19 has forced the Latin American and the Caribbean countries to close educational institutions at the preschool, elementary and junior high school levels. In Mexico, in addition, public and private universities were closed, for this reason, it is important to make a diagnosis of the impact associated with confinement measures and social distancing due to COVID-19. The aim of this study was to analyze the effects of COVID-19 on the academic performance and emotional health of the student population of the Natural Sciences College from the Guerrero State University in the context of the transition from face-to-face education to an online educational model. The study was conducted with a population of 88 students by applying an online survey of exploratory, descriptive, non-experimental design. According to the results, it is concluded that: It is necessary to reinforce the training of the teaching staff to guarantee a better quality transition towards the online education model, since there are deficiencies with regards to the management of virtual platforms and different digital resources. Students do not have an optimal connectivity nor technological resources, which is a limitation to carry out their academic activities to guarantee an effective learning, since some of them lack computer equipment and internet access which places them in a state of vulnerability. Respondents consider that the pandemic is a serious or extremely serious event that has modified their lifestyle and also reported to have symptoms of anxiety, stress or being scared and worried, which can have negative effects on their academic performance.
