Abstract: Student success is an important topic at every level in any university setting, relating to attracting students, retaining students and students graduating timely. Understanding student performance is a complicated topic that has been the focus of many research studies with little distinct conclusion. Past literature demonstrates conflicting results leaving the expectations of this research study open to either direction. This study endeavors to aid in the understanding of factors that affect student success. In this study, a few key factors such as color of exam paper, gender, degree major, employment status, homework grade and position in the classroom are examined for association with the final grade earned by the student. The main focus of this study investigates is the effect of paper color on student exam scores and final grade results in an intermediate accounting class. The additional variables were used as controlling variables to isolate the effect of exam color on final grade. Future research is planned post COVID which has created too many variables to consider effectively and make comparison to the previously gathered data. We do find an effect between the color of exam paper with final grade. In addition, we also find an effect between gender and final grade.

Abstract: In the 21st century, information has become as significant as such natural resources as oxygen, water and land. It is against this background that the objectives of this study are identifying strategies for teaching students the importance of information literacy and the role of LIS educators in establishing a higher institution literacy programme that would provide students (undergraduates and postgraduates alike) a good knowledge of anti-plagiarism, research and project-writing, information retrieval skills, self-directed learning, deepened understanding of library information resources, and the effective utilization and application of information resources for credible research outcome. The study adopted the survey research method to examine the role of library and information science educators as catalyst in the implementation of information literacy for lifelong learning in higher institutions. Multi-stage sampling technique including purposive and simple random sampling technique was used to sample respondents for the study. Empirical studies were reported for support of propositions, and a structured instrument was utilized for data collection. The data collected was analyzed using frequency count and percentages and descriptive statistics of mean (x̄) and standard deviation (±). The result showed that the respondents are aware and knowledgeable about the role and strategies of librarians in teaching information literacy. However, the result showed that the respondents do not fully know the extent of information literacy skills and acknowledgment of authors of works consulted during research.

Abstract: This study predicts the preference for three mathematics topics among Junior High School students. Four hundred (400) Junior High School (JHS) students, comprising two hundred and eighteen (218) males and one hundred and eighty-two (182) females selected from Junior High Schools in a school district in Ghana, participated in the study. The multinomial logistic regression model, consisting of three unordered outcome categories (i.e., Relations and Functions, Algebraic expressions, and Linear equations), with predictor variables comprising continuous, nominal, and ordinal variables were used for the study. For Relations and Functions, the results indicated that Math self-concept, Arithmetic ability, Motivation, Instructional strategies and methods, Asanti, Fanti, Ga, and Ewe, were statistically significant (p < .05). Hence, for a unit increase in the Math self-concept measure, a student is 5.82 times more likely to be in the Relations and Functions topic category than in the Linear equations topic category, controlling for the other variables. Again, a female student is 1.15 times more likely than a male student to be in the Relations and Functions topic category than in the Linear equations topic category, controlling for other variables. Similarly, for Algebraic expressions, the results indicated that Math self-concept, Math attitude, Motivation, Instructional strategies and methods, female, Asanti, Fanti, Ga, and Ewe, were statistically significant (p < .05). Thus, for a unit increase in the Math self-concept measure, a student is 2.63 times more likely to be in the Algebraic expressions topic category than in the Linear equations topic category, controlling for the other variables. Again, a female student is 3.75 times more likely than a male student to be in the Algebraic expressions topic category than in the Linear equations topic category, controlling for other variables. These significant predictor variables influencing students’ preference for mathematics topics, add to the body of literature on the factors affecting decision-making in mathematics teaching and learning.

Abstract: Children’s out-door learning activities are important for improved child learning through contribution in holistic development and learning, health and well-being and environmental awareness. However, in Morogoro, parents view point and perceptions are still not known with regard to the outdoor activities provided in pre-primary school learning. Hence this study aimed at investigating the parent’s view point and perception on out-doors learning activities in pre-primary schools in Morogoro. A total 100 randomly selected parents and 10 purposefully selected teachers composed the sample size. Major results indicated that, 90% of the parents had a positive perception in outdoor learning activities. It was clear those preschool children who participated in outdoor learning activities developed physical skills, cognitive, linguistic, motor, and social-emotional. Also, parents perceived that physical development is vital for children as it lays the foundation for a healthy and active life. Moreover, improvement in learning environment, curriculum, training for teachers, learning facilities and emphasis on exploration with natural materials, dramatic/imaginary play, active physical play, art activities, learning center activities, gardening activities, investigative activities, out-door storytelling and nature/neighbourhood walks, were the suggestion provided by parents. The study recommends improved teaching-learning environments by education providers for enhanced children’s learning.

Abstract: This study was undertaken to evaluate the need for a library mobile application dedicated to reference services in academic libraries. The paper proposed the design and use of a mobile application in academic libraries. The study purposively sampled all the 43 university librarians that made up the population in Federal Universities, Nigeria. An unstructured questionnaire was utilized to seek the opinion of the respondents. Out of the 43 questionnaires distributed, 32 were correctly filled and returned indicating a 74.4% return rate. The structure of the proposed mobile library application was outlined. The data were collated and analysed using frequencies and percentages, and content analysis. The findings showed that the respondents used social media for rendering defined reference services. It was observed that there was no policy for the utilization of social media in rendering library services and that librarians welcome the idea of a mobile library application. It was concluded that library will benefit more if mobile library application is adopted rendering library services. It was recommended that academic libraries should adopt a mobile library application and design a policy to guide the use of the application.

Abstract: The article, based on the study of scientific and pedagogical literature, provides a terminological analysis of the pedagogical essence of the concept of “distance learning of preschool children” as a form of education during the war, the foundation of which should be based on partnership. The authors understand the essence of the concept of “distance learning of preschool children” as an organization of partnership educational interaction in the distance of the educator from children and their parents (adults caring for children), which operates synchronously and / or asynchronously on modern educational, information and communication (digital) technologies. The positive and negative aspects of involving preschool children in distance learning are considered. It has been proved that in the conditions of martial law the education of preschoolers should not be interrupted, teachers, children and their parents should interact as subjects of the educational process. The modes of distance learning of preschoolers are determined – synchronous and asynchronous, modern online educational tools that can be used by both educators and parents of preschool children. At the end of the second month of the war in Ukraine, a survey of 50 educators of the Poltava Regional Vocational School on the problems of distance learning was conducted. In most cases, adults are interested in continuing the education of preschoolers in the conditions of distance learning during martial law.
