Abstract: On the basis of a sample of 117 firms, this study aims at investigating the effect of firms’ internal capabilities consisted of Absorptive capacity, R&D capability, Production capability and one external factor having an influence on firms such as International competitive pressure, and also R&D Cooperation on their innovation performance with evidence from Madagascar. To test the three hypotheses formulated in this paper, a multiple linear regression is applied, with the innovation performance as the dependent variable. Our results reveal that while R&D capability and R&D Cooperation affect positively firms’ innovation performance; Absorptive capacity, Production capability and International competitive pressure did not demonstrate any positive impact on it. Therefore, our findings highlight two major points in the context of developing countries’ firms to shape and reinforce their innovation performance: to conduct R&D activities and to engage in R&D Cooperation as means of strengthening their internal and external capabilities.

Abstract: ABSA Enterprise Development (ABSA ED), a division within Barclays Africa Group Limited (bank and finance sector), was established with the mandate to create an enabling environment that supports, advances funding and grants access to markets directed at small and micro enterprise (SME) growth and sustainability. The primary research objective was to determine the impact of the ABSA ED service on the development and growth of the SMEs that bank with ABSA and make use of ABSA ED. The secondary research objective was to identify and assess SMEs that are using the ABSA ED service and to determine their growth position by assessing business growth, competition, business strategy and business development. A quantitative research approach was adopted and included a survey in which 106 SMEs participated. Findings reveal that SMEs are positively impacted by ABSA ED interventions in business growth, strategy and development, but they lacked awareness of competition. SME strategy was significantly related to firm growth, and use of ABSA ED showed a strong positive relation of .8034, although a small effect correlation (.0149) on improving business sales/turnover. Business development indicated no significant correlation between the number of training opportunities the entrepreneur attended and the growth levels of the firm. The age of 55.2% of the businesses surveyed ranged between 1 and 5 years, indicating the relative start-up phase of the SMEs. SMEs confirmed the use of business skills acquired through ABSA ED training seminars. Although findings reflect positive impact on the growth of the SME, the Procurement Portal product reflects low growth impact. A link was found between business strategy and SME growth, where the use of ABSA ED had medium correlation, while business development correlated negatively to business growth.

Abstract: This research sought to examine the effectiveness of product traceability and identification systems in organizations in Ghana using the Coca-Cola Company Limited, Kumasi Plant as case study. The study population included all employees of the Coca Cola Bottling Company as well as distributors for the company. The study was conducted with a quantitative method, executed through questionnaires and interview. The sample size for the study was sixty. The study utilized a quantitative research approach along with a descriptive research design. The quantitative data collected were subjected to statistical analyses using simple linear regression and correlation analysis. Findings indicated that that Coca Cola Company Limited has effective mechanisms in place to oversee the effective implementation of traceability and identification systems. The study also showed that the traceability and identification system by Coca Cola Bottling Company Limited was significantly effective in tracking products in supply chain. This implied that the coca cola traceability system contributes significantly to tracking products in supply chain.

Abstract: Considering the inaccurate demand forecasting in supply chain, we introduce robust optimization to reduce uncertainty. The method is mainly to modify the probability distribution of the demand, in order to obtain a more accurate demand. A classical model and a corresponding robust model are established in the context of a fixed number of products offered by the supplier. As to calculation, we also propose the fast Fourier transform approach which greatly reduces the amount of computation. Finally, the process of robust optimization and improved algorithm are interpreted by numerical examples. The results show that the expected revenue of the robust model is lower. Because the method is conservative and robust.
