Abstract: The purpose of this research is to explain how and why to use the genealogy approach in order to understand the evolution of the role of cities over time with special emphasis on the city of Mashhad. "The role of the city" and its developments can be analyzed with different approaches such as the economic approach or the urban geography approach. But in this research, Foucault's genealogy was used, and the city and its role were investigated under the influence of the power of governance and its mutual relations with space and knowledge. The basic questions are: Regardless of the initial formation and the geographical and political background of the city of Mashhad, what is the dominant role of this city now? How have these roles been formed over time and what discourses have been effective in creating these roles? Does this city have new power and capacity for development? Based on Foucault's theory of genealogy, the analysis of the development process of urban roles can be done using power-related tools and knowledge products. Based on this, the dominant role of cities has been formed during historical periods and between historical breaks, and new spatial links of manifestations of power and knowledge have been created in the urban space. The urban space of Mashhad and its historical, physical and social developments have been formed under the influence of an interconnected network of knowledge and power.

Abstract: This paper is twofold. On the one hand, standpipe water data for small rural communities in Meknes region are studied. 89 villages with population less than 1200 have been probed. In total, about 37000 inhabitants are covered by this study. From the conducted analysis, it appears that the daily per capita water-use rate for the considered population is uniformly distributed with an estimated average of about 10 liter. The lower and the upper 95% confidence bounds placed on this average are 4.3 and 15.9; respectively. Such data can, for example, be useful while planning regional water conveyance systems. On the other hand, the statistical test used in this work is based on the closed form of the Shapiro-Wilk statistic, Wu, made explicit by Cheng and Spiring in the case of uniformly distributed random variables. Even though Wu is computationally simple, its sampling distribution seems to be intractable for arbitrarily sample-size values. On that account, Monte Carlo simulations are run to generate custom quantiles frequently needed in a typical hypothesis testing problem. Then, the study extends and improves the Cheng-Spiring quantile Table 1 for testing for the uniform distribution. It also proposes a simplified and user-friendly graphical support which serves the same task.

Abstract: There are limitations in using traditional gas logging interpretation to identify oil and gas layers containing light oil and heavy gas, and accurate identification techniques are urgently required. We chose the Xihu Sag as an example to demonstrate the method. Large amounts of gas logging data were analyzed and the critical trend lines of heavy hydrocarbon components in the oil and gas layers were established. The results showed obvious differences between the distribution characteristics of the hydrocarbon components of the oil and gas layers. When the gas–oil ratio of the gas layer was higher, the light hydrocarbon content was higher, and the proportion of heavy hydrocarbon components was lower. In contrast, when the gas–oil ratio of the oil layer was lower, the heavy hydrocarbon content was higher, and the proportion of the heavy hydrocarbon component was higher. A hydrocarbon component chart analysis showed that when the hydrocarbon component distribution curve was more concentrated, the heavy hydrocarbon content was lower. The gas and oil layers were distributed within and outside of the critical line. The gas logging interpretation results of 25 wells in the study area showed that the interpretation coincidence rate of the hydrocarbon component distribution method was 89.5%, 10% higher than that of the traditional gas logging method. This method solves the problem of identifying complex fluids to a certain extent and is thus of great significance for reducing the cost of developing oil and gas fields and formulating reasonable developmental strategies.
