Abstract: The development of curricula is a major priority of educational systems. The associated concepts, theories and guiding principles are briefly presented in this paper, along with a systemic approach for designing a curriculum. This approach is based on the systemic domain of Systems Methodology that facilitates curriculum development in a holistic manner. The related systemic guiding principles are demonstrated through examples that are presented according to the relevant modelling technique of Organizational Method for Analyzing Systems.

Abstract: Traffic crashes are considered one of the major public health concerns, considering that this phenomenon explains a high number of deaths and injuries every year, and around all the world in different groups of population. The road safety education, (or traffic safety education), regarding the complexity of this process, and that it takes place during the complete process of life of individuals, is considered as a key determinant of road safety behaviors and a relatively lower road risk, essentially for road users with more and diverse high risk factors which may explain the occurrence of road accidents, such as young adults. The general objective of this study was to describe the associated factors to the Road Safety Education in the higher education institutions (universities) of Spain, and its relationship with road safety factors among young adults currently coursing a career in this kind of centers. Throughout this study, it was also assessed a set of indicators related with road safety education “outputs”, such as attitudes towards road safety, knowledge of traffic law and signals, risk perception and risky behaviors on the road. This cross-sectional study used a total sample of n=843 (357 (42.3%) men, and 486 (57.7%) women) university students, who answered a questionnaire designed to collect data about their psychosocial characteristics, factors associated with road safety education at Spanish higher education institutions and, finally, their attitudes, perceptions and self-reported behaviors as road users. Besides finding a very low participation of Spanish universities in road safety education, and of its students in these activities or programs, significant measures of association between individual factors and the employed road safety education indicators were found. Gender comparisons show substantial differences on road safety education indicators between men and women, being, in all cases, more adverse results corresponding to the male gender. Finally, it was built a multiple linear regression model, that allowed to establish the statistical influence of the road safety education on risky behaviors on the road of Spanish university students. This study shows that it is necessary to develop strategies to increase the presence of actions related to road safety education within universities, to improve the coverage and quality of the learning process of this subject among higher education students, and to include universities in the development of a multi-sectorial road safety education strategy.

Abstract: The study examines constraints militating against the effective implementation of vocational and technology education programme in tertiary institutions in Bayelsa State. The study adopted descriptive survey design because it sought to elicit from the respondents constraints on the effective implementation of vocational and technology education in tertiary institutions in Bayelsa State. The population for this study consists of all the students in the department of vocational and technology education, Niger Delta University, Bayelsa State. Simple random sampling technique was used to select two-hundred and four (204) students as respondents for the study. A structured questionnaire titled “Constraints Militating against the Effective Implementation of Vocational and Technology Education (CMEIVTE)” was used in eliciting information from the respondents. The data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics of mean and standard deviation. Based on the findings the following recommendation among others was made; Adequate funds should be made available by all levels of government to the various institutions.

Abstract: In higher education research, computer and information technologies are getting increased consideration and attention. These technologies can be integrated into the design education through taking into account a scaffolding mechanism, which will support activities of teaching/learning in a distributed environment. This research presents a digital-based scaffolding geographic information systems (GIS) teaching/learning strategy to support architecture, urban and landscape design undergraduate students’ spatial planning in a distributed design environment, especially for suitable site selection of rural buildings as an approach in higher education research. The aim of this work is to investigate the measurement and verification of the strategy proposed, which would support architecture, urban and landscape design undergraduate students to have more understanding of spatial planning in a collaborative learning context while having communication with teachers and/or experts. In a collaborative teaching/learning context, it supports learning outcomes and interaction effects of architecture, urban and landscape design undergraduate students. Here, the web model proposed adapted a spatial planning methodology and its examination for integrating a rural building in a case study area (Hervas, Spain). Using the web-based GIS model, architecture, urban and landscape design undergraduate students can correctly plan and design a rural building as using various categorized factors and taking favors from them. Moreover, the web model can support architecture, urban and landscape design undergraduate students who request communication from teachers and/or experts in a dispersed location. Hence, the web-based scaffolding GIS information model can be an approaching method to assess the competence and efficiency of using scaffoldings in encouraging teaching/learning activities for architecture, urban and landscape design undergraduate students. It is to improve meta-cognitive consciousness and in addition to knowledge achievement with regard to spatial GIS planning processes in a disseminated design environment. Thus, it is to satisfy a mix of architecture, urban and landscape design undergraduate students with different requirements in a collaborative learning project context.

Abstract: The human harmful impact on the environment has been made to focus on the release of chemical substances to the environment from industries with little or no recognition to the procedures of resources distribution via market situations. The study seeks to examine sociological factors associated with periodic street markets as predictive of environmental pollution in Yenagoa. The study was anchored on Weberian Social Action Theory. A survey research design was adopted to sample 372 sellers in a simple random technique in seven market locations. Structured questionnaire was utilized to collect quantitative data from the respondents. Descriptive statistics and multiple linear regressions were used to analyze data using SPSS version 20.0. The hypotheses were tested at p-value<0.05 level of significance. Findings revealed that the mean age of the respondents was 34.4±9.21, while majority of the respondents (51.3% food stuff and 11.3% fruit items) in the markets sell food related items. Findings also showed that among other predictive factors of environmental pollution, the medium of waste disposal (99.4%) was the most significant factor predicting the occurrence of environmental pollution in the city. In view of the findings, it was concluded that effort to exert compliance to environmental sanitation especially among sellers in the periodic street markets in the city should be made by the government in collaboration with the market association in order that indiscriminate dumping of refuse around market areas can be brought to control.
