Abstract: The report of the Nineteenth National Congress of the Party clearly states that we will move faster to build Chinese universities into world-class universities and develop world-class disciplines as we work to bring out the full potential of higher education. Under the background of "Belt and Road" construction, higher education is a "connecting heart bridge" for communication and cooperation between countries, and also a "adhesive" for co-construction and sharing. It has unique and irreplaceable advantages in the construction of "Belt and Road". The construction of "B&R" provides a broader space for the development of higher education and puts forward new requirements. In the face of the opportunities and challenges of "B&R", colleges and universities should take the initiative and push forward pragmatically, especially in the areas that are important nodes, and should speed up their own development in striving to serve the national strategy. By analyzing "three major challenges" of foreign exchange and cooperation in colleges and universities under the strategy of "B&R ", this paper finds out the" five major paths "for colleges and universities to help" B&R ", and analyzes them in detail in order to promote the international development of higher education in colleges and universities and to help the construction of "B&R".

Abstract: The quality assurance system implemented for higher medical education in Ukraine at the sectoral level includes the ranking of higher medical institutions and national licensed integrated examinations (hereinafter - LIE), which have been implemented since 1998. The LIE system is a set of tools for standardized diagnostics of the level of professional competence as part of the state certification of students majoring in "Medicine", "Stomatology" and "Pharmacy" in higher education, regardless of their subordination. The purpose of the licensed integrated exam is to establish compliance with the level of professional competence of the graduate with the minimum required level by the requirements of the State Standards of Higher Education. Professional competence is diagnosed as the ability to apply knowledge and understanding of fundamental medical disciplines. The study is devoted to analysis of students’ readiness to the licensing integrated examination “Krok-1. Medicine” in Ukraine 2019 year. The scores of O. O. Bogomolets National Medical University (hereinafter - NMU) students were examined in more details in comparison to the results of students from other high medical schools of Ukraine. The results of licensing integrated examination “Krok-1. Medicine” were compared for students of medical #1-4 faculties, the medical-psychological faculty and faculty for training doctors for the armed forces of Ukraine. The results of students were analyzed by subtests, which are included to licensing integrated examination “Krok-1. Medicine”. It was shown that NMU 4.8% generally gives better than the average performance indicator in Ukraine among all medical universities. Conducting an analysis of the success of the medical faculties of NMU, it can be noted that the medical #1 and #2 faculties showed the highest results: 78.7% and 78.3% respectively.

Abstract: The content of the article delves into the essence of quality management in the different postgraduate figures, emphasizing the training of doctors, developing a proposal for research academic management, which means their role in universities. The theoretical considerations that support the dynamics of quality management in postgraduate training are provided, as well as the relationships that, from a holistic approach, reveal the characteristics of the dialectical behavior of the process. It transits through the epistemological characterization of the postgraduate training process and its management at present, through the systematization of its main theoretical references, which allows the elaboration of an authentic proposal of postgraduate quality management, pertinent with the epistemological arguments of the postgraduate process and its relation to scientific research. The article insists on the understanding of the concept of academic research quality, conditioned by the relationship with the terms of management, evaluation and quality, from the perspective that quality is recognized as a quality, dialectical synthesis of relevance, impact and optimization of the process considered. This reflection leads to the fact that the quality of a process or institution is not reduced to a quantitative parameter, but rather constitutes an essential and general category that identifies the process itself and in its relationship with society.

Abstract: The issue of retention and graduation of STEM college students is an important one in the United States, which the federal government, and its agencies, have focused on addressing for many years. In this paper, the authors discuss the experiences of a National Science Foundation STEP (STEM Talent Expansion Program) award to the School of Engineering at the University of New Mexico (UNM). The objective of this project is in-line with the national goal of improving retention and graduation rates of STEM students (specifically engineering and computer science students). The setup of this STEP project is unique in the sense that it focuses its efforts and activity funding on internships and professional conference participation trips for early career engineering and computer science students. In addition to a background on the national STEP Program, the paper discusses the constructive elements of this project and the data that was collected to measure its impact. The methods of this research involved data collection and analysis, surveys, bivariate descriptive statistics with statistical significance, and multivariate logistic regression analysis. The findings supported the original hypothesis of this multi-year study concerning the anticipated positive effect internships and conference participations can have on the graduation and retention of engineering undergraduate students. Therefore, it is concluded that such activities be explored at other higher education institutions in order to improve their retention and graduation numbers.
